Scorpions on the loose at WYPI!!!

Check out Bryan R aka "Tank's" latest artwork, a pencil sketch of a scorpion with very nice detail. Tank is one of our in house graphic designers, a former member of the Urban Arts and DJ after school classes here at YPI/CNHS, and he recently played the character "Joaquin" in our reading of "Nerd Landia". Be on the look out for more great artwork from Tank, and be sure to listen in for him on WYPI!

Hey everybody, take a look at a few pictures of our WYPI Broadcasting class, held at Camino Nuevo High School. We were in the middle of our reading of "Nerd Landia" and some of our photographers took a few quick flicks of the crew. Enjoy!!

Gamers Unite! Video Game Show coming soon!

Several of our hosts, here at WYPI, are video game fanatics, with Modern Warfare 2 being a in house favorite! We have been known to have video game competitions, after school and plan on having shows dedicated to video gaming. Hopefully, we can talk about this topic as well!

Can a Video Game Be a Work of Art? By KATHERINE SCHULTEN NY Times

quote:::

"In his review, Chris Suellentrop quotes Roger Ebert, who wrote a blog post this year called “Video Games Can Never Be Art” in which he stated, “no one in or out of the field has ever been able to cite a game worthy of comparison with the great dramatists, poets, filmmakers, novelists and composers.”

Students: Tell us about your experiences with video games, and your opinion about their potential as works of art in their own right. Do you, too, find them addictive? Which do you think are the best in terms of how they stack up as “ambitious works of narrative fiction”? Do you agree with Mr. Bissell that there is a big generational divide on the potential of video games?

WYPI RADIO IS FINALLY HERE!! Listen to our test show!!

Hooray!! The test show was a success and it looks like the newly formed WYPI team is ready to rock and roll! Our test run of the new high school radio show, hosted at Camino Nuevo High School, aired live on Friday, July 16th, 2010.

Students began using their cell phone free time" to call into the show and introduce themselves to the world!! Our maiden voyage was filled with lots of pauses, giggles and hilarious answers to our questions. Next week should be very interesting!

Brenda B. was our first caller, giving us her candidly funny response to the question "Why I don't like school" (”Teachers are LAME!”) Jesse Rodriquez aka Bean asked a few interview questions with Yasmeen, our second interview host!

German called in for a interview, telling us that he spends time in construction and his favorite TV show is South Park(loves Mr Hanky!) Marina and Nicole also called in, as did Bryan Aka Tarzan, who asked a few interview questions.

Brandon Anda aka DJ Freza called in for his interview! He said that they call him DJ Freza because he exercises a lot and his face turns bright red when he does. He spends a lot of his time playing soccer and gets mad when people diss him. He loves to go to parties and raves. He considers his brother his most important person in his life.

Tank, our graphic artist extraordinaire was a bit reluctant to talk on the show. I guess he likes to let his amazing art work do the talking for him.

Dolly and Jesseell said hello to us as we took over the Sony Study labs for a second.

Augustin G. and Lyn (aka Lilly) manned the switch boards in the Sony Lab while DJ Bean was our techie, with Jeffrey and Nelson aka Fur Ball standing by.

Amilcar R. stopped by the Sony Lab to say hello to Fur Ball and I, as did Brenda S, with a great introduction interview. She told us about her life, her family and her favorite class is, Math, and why.

Nicole returned to tell us a little bit about herself, but someone pranked us for a second and confused our host!! (Our first prank call..yeah!!) Brenda talked to us some with with Sefora, who was excited to talk to us (kind of) but we gave her a pass as we ended our show.

Lyn took the DJ booth and played “Video Phone” by Beyonce and Lady Gaga and Major Lazor as we ended the show, a total success!!

Take a listen to the show and tune in on Monday!!
